Margaret M. Fletcher

Margaret “Peggy” Fletcher, 92, was born Margaret Mary Kelley in Topeka, Kansas on January 18, 1925. She entered Heaven’s gates on March 30, 2017.
The matriarch of the Fletcher Family, Peggy loved doting on her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an exceptional baker and enjoyed making desserts for her family and friends, especially her famous brownies and key lime pie. She was also a sports fan and enjoyed attending and watching Chicago sports, especially her beloved Chicago White Sox.
Peggy had an unwavering faith in God. She was a founding member of St. John of the Cross Church. Over the years, she had become very involved with the parish and happily assisted with numerous church groups, including the Monday morning collection counting group.
Peggy was a devoted volunteer at LaGrange Hospital and excelled as a purchaser for the hospital gift shop. She was also an active member of PEO, Philanthropic Educational Organization.
Peggy was predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, James Elrod Fletcher, former chairman and CEO of Field Enterprises, Inc. She was also predeceased by her daughter Barbara Oursler and her grandson, John Berkovsky. Peggy is survived by her son James A. Fletcher and his wife, Meg; son Michael Fletcher and his wife, Stephanie; son Mark Fletcher and his wife, Dalaine; daughter Patricia Berkovsky and her husband, Wes. She is also survived by her brothers Larry Kelley and Bob Kelley. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Peggy was a resident at Plymouth Place in LaGrange Park for the last few years of her life. The family is grateful to the staff there, as well as to everyone else who cared for Peggy, including her compassionate medical team. Peggy bravely battled cancer and Parkinson’s Disease, but the diseases never defined her.
The family will receive friends at Hallowell & James Funeral Home located at 1025 West 55th Street in Countryside from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017. A Mass of Resurrection celebrating her life will be held following visitation at 11:15 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Parish located at 5005 Wolf Road in Western Springs.
