Thomas M. Gowgiel, 78, of Downers Grove. Beloved husband of Susan, nee Warner. Loving father of Mark (Sonia) and Brad (Renee). Grandfather of Jordan, Lauren, Kathryn and Nathan. Brother of Ann Therese (late Jim) Greist, Tony (Chris) Gowgiel, Joe Gowgiel and the late Mary Ann (late Nelson) Cornell. Visitation 3 to 9 pm Monday at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 301-75th Street, Downers Grove. Prayers 10:45am Tuesday from funeral home to St. Mary of Gostyn Church in Downers Grove for Mass at 11:30am. Interment St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary of Gostyn School Endowment Fund or Food Pantry. Tom was a 16 year employee of Hallowell & James Funeral Home working as an evening visitation greeter. Info: 630-964-6500.

It should not be forgotten what an excellent teacher Mr. Gowgiel was at Argo Community High School. I still remember some of the lessons learned in his government class in the early 60’s.
