Fernando “Fred” Vitorio Collecchia, age 95, of Hodgkins, passed away Nov. 27, 2015.  Loving father of Tina (Mike) Bezek, Frank, Giovanni “John” (fiancée Kathy) and Giuseppe “Joe”.  Step-father of the late Dwight Parks.  Devoted grandfather of Jeff (Lori), Jenny and Tim Rogers, Gina and Tony Collecchia and Isabelle Collecchia.  Great-grandfather of Jacob and Ryan Rogers.  Dear brother of the late Irma (late Louie) Polo and the late Angelo (late Rose) Boni.  Fond uncle of Al (Cheryl) Polo, Joanne Crowley, the late Hilda, Dan (Arlene) Boni and Alice Boni.  Great-uncle of Jimmy (Betty) Cunningham.   Fred was born to Maria Catarina Simonelli and Francesco Collecchia on August 23, 1920 in Codiponte, Italy and immigrated to the U.S. via Ellis Island in 1932.  After serving in combat in the European Theater as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, Fred eventually settled in the Lyons / McCook, IL area.  He became a restauranteur after working in construction for many years and started his first family.  He opened Hi-66 Drive In, Fernando’s Restaurant and Fred’s Patio Lounge.  The he made a detour in 1975 and opened the Homestead in Middlebury, IN and started his second family.  He found his way back to McCook in 1985 and opened his last restaurant Fred’s Folly.  Fred’s favorite pastime, other than family, was going to the casino and playing craps.  He made many trips to Las Vegas over the years.  Visitation 3-9pm Tuesday December 1st at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55^th St., Countryside.  Interment private.  A celebration of Fred’s life will be held 4pm Wednesday December 2nd at Buck’s Pit Stop, 6501 Kane Ave., Hodgkins.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Thomas Hospice.  Funeral info 708-352-6500
