Longtime LaGrange area resident, Camilla Edbrooke Norby died December 21 at the age of 96. Born February 3, 1919 in Oak Park, Illinois, the second child of Raymond and Julia Burns Edbrooke, she grew up in Elmhurst and Forest Park. She graduate from Proviso High School where she was president of the Girls League. She then began working as a secretary at Harris Trust and Savings Bank in Chicago, where she met her husband, William C. Norby. They married in 1943 and lived in Dayton, Ohio while he was in the service. They moved to LaGrange Park in 1947.
In addition to raising two children and serving as Cub Scout den leader, room mother and Sunday school teacher, Camilla was active in the community. She served on the Women’s Board of the Plymouth Place Retirement home from 1965-1972, including a term as president. She was a member of the LaGrange Park Garden Club and won several prizes for her floral arrangements. Later in life, she volunteered at the Community Nurse Carousel shop. In 1999 the Norbys moved to Plymouth Place.
Throughout her life, Camilla enjoyed crafts and made countless Christmas ornaments for friends. She was featured in Suburban Life for her quilting and for decorating trees at the Brookfield Zoo.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Norby, brother Robert Edbrooke, sisters Jane Muzal and Juliarae Nardini and son-in-law Kenneth Fraundorf.. Survivors include her daughter, Martha Fraundorf of Corvallis, Oregon; son, Richard Norby (wife, Ellen Smith) of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; grandsons, Scott Fraundorf of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Karl Norby of San Francisco, California;brother, Raymond Edbrooke of Riverside, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
