Edward James MatousekEdward James Matousek, Energy Consultant and Entrepreneur, died peacefully at his home in La Grange Park, Illinois, at the age of 94.
Ed is survived by his wife Joyce (to whom he was devoted for over 75 years); his children, Jill Turner and husband Steve Turner, Lynn Gambill and husband Steve Gambill, and Mark Matousek and wife Melinda Paterson; and his six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was born in Chicago in 1921, and graduated from University of Illinois with a degree in electrical engineering, and attended Annapolis Naval Academy in 1943. Ed married Joyce Vileta in 1943 and was soon after deployed to Hawaii.
After serving in the war as Lieutenant, Ed worked for Western Electric and eventually became head of engineering for International Minerals and Chemicals, working in India in the 1950s. He also founded Energy Systems Engineers, which developed back-up power systems for hospitals, data centers and factories. He was a developer of the first gas pipeline in the southwest U.S. and owner of the High Country Inn ski lodge in Winter Park, CO.
Ed was an avid golfer and bridge player. He found great pleasure in telling his jokes and stories…he loved making people laugh. He was a profoundly happy person – unflappable even in the face of many challenges. His wit and wisdom guided his friends and family. He knew how lucky he was and it was reflected in his kind, joyful and impish spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love, gratitude and exceptional memories.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11:00 am in Albert Hall at Plymouth Place, 315 N. La Grange Rd, La Grange Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Alzheimer’s Association.
