Margaret Helen Aul, age 96, died on May 19. 2016 in her home of 71 years. Margaret was born to George and Sarah (Brown) Benson on their farm in Viola, Wisconsin on July 2, 1919. She was the next oldest of five children, and attended Upper Camp Creek Grade School. She was preceded in death by her older brother Leslie and her younger siblings Delbert, Jessie, and Alice Lorraine. Margaret moved to Chicago to work as a domestic helper where she met her husband, David Aul, and was married in September of 1940. They were partners in marriage for over 75 years. They had four children, David, Gloria, Thomas, and Jerry. Margaret worked as a precision parts inspector for more than 25 years, leaving her job to assist in caring for her aging parents. Margaret was a champion of the underdog and a prolific letter writer. If somebody needed a word of encouragement, Margaret would write. A card never went out without a handwritten letter. She was also a master gardener long before classes were needed for that title. She loved flowers, vegetables, and berries. She left the farm but was always a farmer. She and David returned to school after retirement and proudly earned their GED in 1981.
