Charlotte Elaine Webb

Charlotte Elaine Webb, 67, passed away January 10, 2017 at her home in the West Loop.  She was well-known for her festive dinner parties and vibrant involvement in Chicago’s arts scene. Charlotte graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the early 1970s and worked at the Museum of Contemporary Art in various positions from preparator to registrar. In 1980 she left her position to work closely with Betsy Rosenfield at her gallery in River North for the next 15 years. After the gallery closed in 1995, she pursued many other contemporary art positions, including work for the Chicago Public Art Program, Elliott Brown Gallery, and as events coordinator for Art Chicago.  The daughter of the late Albert Webb and Hazel Ellen Pearsall Webb, she is survived by her sister Katherine Webb Hartwell (Dr. Brian) of Grosse Ile, MI. She is also survived by her beloved niece Ellen Hartwell Alderman (Garry) of Chicago, her dear grand nephews Julien and Alex Alderman, her nephew Dr. Trevor Hartwell (Sara) of Hawaii, and her longtime friend William James (Charissa).  A memorial celebration of her life is planned for April 9.  Contact the family at khartwell@wowway.com for details.

  1. Dear Katie and family,
    My heartfelt sympathy to you.
I have very fond memories of your Mom and Dad, and you girls growing up next to us. I am still living in the same house.
Char baby sat with our son Jim, who was about 2 years old and is now 52! She would sketch him and they were so good.
At Christmas your Mom would leave him a basket full of Avon toys on the front porch!
It’s a very sad time to know Char has passed. But your memories will keep her with you always. Fondly,
    Mrs. Bonnie j Prims.
