Stanley Golaszewski

Longtime La Grange resident Stanley Golaszewski died on February 13, 2017. Born in Chicago, Stanley grew up to be a true first generation immigrant success story. During WWII Stanley was a PFC in the 7707th Military Intelligence Service Center where he worked undercover in the displaced persons’ camps and served at the Embassy in Bern, Switzerland. After the war, Stanley studied at Loyola University. He loved to dance and met his future bride, Evelyn Zapala, in 1950 at Pulaski Dance Hall. They were wed in May 1952 and had 6 children: Linda, Richard, Christopher, Carolyn, Greg and Annmarie; and two “adopted” daughters Charlene Grill and Stephanie Plazony. Stanley was a consummate salesman and a celebrity impersonator of George Burns. His personal success was due to his love of people. His greatest joys came from storytelling, his passion for golf, travel and most importantly his family. Musically talented, Stan also played guitar and banjo and sang and was a fixture at the St. Francis Xavier talent nights. He always had a smile and a joke for friend or stranger alike. He will be missed by his many friends, family, and fans.  He is survived by his wife, children Linda (David Summers), Carolyn (Mike Weaver), Greg (Robyn), and Annmarie (John Blaha), and six grandchildren, Devon, Mackenzie, Taylor, Samantha, Ayden, and Duncan. He is also survived by his siblings, Teresa Tolczyk, Joe Golaszewski (Josette), and Ray Golaszewski (Dotty) and many nieces and nephews. Visitation 4 to 9pm Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. 3. Brother, father figure, friend, best of the best, Stash and his loving wife Evelyn were always present at any significant event in the Golaszewski family. “Love one another, as I have loved you” is the premise that Stan lived by. We can all attest to his loving and caring nature. One could not ask for a better sibling. He laughed, cried, rejoiced, and suffered with his family, brothers and sister. We’ll miss you, Stasiu, but know you will keep our place warm until we gather together once again. Love you, Brother!

  4. Stan was very much a part of the Willow Crest Golf Club family and made us all smile whenever he was at the club. A remarkable person that touched a lot of people. Thanks for the memories Stanley. Thoughts and prayers to family and friends.
