Gene D. Mazurek was born into life on June 1, 1944 and was taken to heaven on March 29, 2018 at age 73 after a short but valiant fight against pancreatic cancer. Gene, a Chicago native and US Navy veteran, spent his life growing his family, friendships and his business, Suburban Corrugated Box Company, in the western suburbs, passing peacefully at his long-time home in Indian Head Park surrounded by his family. He was a lover of life and known for his benevolence and jovial spirit.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Marcy (Mesich), his adoring son Dave (Jill) Mazurek, and his beloved grandchildren Rylan George and Boden Gene Mazurek. Dear brother of Elaine (Wally) Klimek, Nancy (Frank) Treski, Beverly (Chris) Moon, Jim (Nanette) Mazurek, and Kathleen Mazurek. Treasured son-in-law to Gloria (late George) Mesich and brother-in-law to Larry (Louisa) Mesich. Honorary grandfather (aka Papa Gene) to Hudson Davis and Wynn Dublin LaPidus. Loved Uncle Gene to many amazing nieces and nephews. To list the friends and colleagues Gene so cherished in his life, and who cherished him, would be an impossible task. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Bernice Mazurek.
