Grace Szafran

Grace Szafran, age 58, of Hinsdale. Beloved wife of John Szafran for a wonderful 31 years. Loving mother of Rick, Martin, Jonathan (Jennifer), and Krystina Szafran. Fond grandmother of Lucas and James. Dear daughter of Stella and the late Frank Janczy. Cherished sister of Ann (Roman) Muszynski, Margaret and Peter Janczy. Devoted aunt and friend.

After many months of bravely fighting leukemia, Grace passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, on January 2, 2019.

Grace was a selfless caregiver to everyone she encountered. She freely shared her infectious smile and delightful sense of humor; inspired pride in her students at Christopher School; and, above all, fiercely loved and protected her family.

    1. Mrs. Szafran I met you last year on my 1st year at Christopher Elementary School (I’m Now on my 2nd Year). You were always Happy and Loved your Job. 9. Grace was an inspiring mother, teacher and friend. I knew Grace from our university years, as we were both immigrant women struggling to achieve our dreams and working hard to create a bright future for our families. Grace was the epitome of the american dream and of motherhood. Every time she spoke of her family she lit up like a star, and everyone lucky enough to be her friend felt it. The world is missing a star now but she will look down upon us from Heaven and continue to give us her great light. With love, the Lopatniuk and Brzezinski family.

  10. I worked closely with Grace the last few years and her dedication to her students and work was inspiring. I always teased her that I was intimidated by her insane organizational skills. She always told me stories of her family and it was clear how much they meant to her. She will be missed, and Christopher will not be the same without her. Prayers for peace for her family and friends.

  11. Grace, my special Boogee, was such an inspiration to teachers and students. She was my “go to” teacher on so many levels. I loved
Making her classroom my first stop every morning for a smile and laugh at Christopher School. Love you, “Boogee.”
