Evelyn T. Sutherland (nee Zaleski), age 96, of LaGrange; beloved wife of Enoch Rudy Sutherland for a wonderful 68 years; loving mother of Kenneth (Melissa), Glenn, & Kevin (Patty) Sutherland. Devoted grandmother of Kenny, Brett (Elise), Eric, Darren, Jacquelyn (Michael) Buhmeyer, Jacob, & Grace. Dear great-grandmother of four. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Mary Zaleski, and her sisters Charlotte (late Ted) Froncek and Helen (late Leonard) Fila. Fond aunt and friend of many.

Evelyn has been a lifelong reside of Chicago and LaGrange. She attended Kelly and Gage Park High Schools, graduating in the early 40’s and went on to take an administrative assistant position at the Crane Plumbing Company. Evelyn met Rudy Sutherland and they married on July 14, 1951 when she chose to devote her life to being a partner, homemaker, and mother. Evelyn and Rudy had three sons and she became an important mentor in developing their character and values, and in managing the household during their school years. Those years included significant road trips for vacation to many cities and states. Evelyn had three sisters who shared and maintained the responsibility of memorable holiday family events for the Sutherland, Fila, and Froncek families. Our holiday dinners provided the adults and children the opportunity to bond for a lifetime!

Visitation 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 23 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Family & friends will meet at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Brainard and 47th Street for a 10 a.m. funeral service. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Justice.
