Saranne Milano, age 80, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2020. Saranne’s passing was unrelated to Covid-19.
Born October 5, 1939 and raised in River Forest, IL. Saranne was a graduate of St. Luke Parish School and Oak Park River Forest High School. She met her loving husband, Bob, at Northern Illinois University and they were married on June 13, 1959. Saranne and Bob eventually settled in Western Springs where their roots have been firmly grounded for over 55 years.
Saranne was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as “Mimi” to her five grandchildren. She was their biggest fan and nothing made her happier than spending time with them. Saranne had a vivacious personality and made friends everywhere she went.
Over the years, Saranne repeatedly demonstrated her willingness to volunteer and serve her community. Among her many appointments, Saranne was the first woman Village of Western Springs President, Village of Western Springs Trustee, President of St. John of the Cross Parish Council, President of Old Water Town chapter of Questers, and most recently Past President of Aging Care Connections. Saranne loved Western Springs and was extremely honored to be chosen as Western Springs Citizen of the Year and more recently, chosen as Senior Citizen of the Year for the 3rd Congressional District.
For the past 44 years, Saranne and Bob have spent their summers in Grand Beach, Michigan where Saranne’s passion for the beach, bridge, bingo and books was shared with so many cherished friends.
Saranne enjoyed sitting on her Grand Beach back porch admiring her garden, watching the Chicago Cubs and often knitting or crocheting something for someone special. Saranne could often be seen at The Blue Chip Casino or Four Winds Casino hoping to come home a big winner.
Saranne’s love brightened all of our lives and she will be dearly missed.
Saranne was preceded in death by her loving sister, Geraldine Pugh; sister-in-law Antoinette Brooke; brother-in-law John Milano, and brother-in-law Phillip Milano. She leaves behind her husband of 61 years, Bob, son Robert (Patricia), daughters Gerianne (Greg) Salach and Jeanna; grandchildren Caitlin (aka Kiki), Erin, and Madeline Salach; and Dominic and Vincent Milano. She was the fond sister-in-law of Charlie Pugh and the loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Wake to be held Sunday, June 14, 5 to 8 p.m. at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 West 55th St., Countryside, IL. 60525. A group limit of 10 and social distancing measures will be in place. Funeral Mass will be private and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aging Care Connections, 111 W. Harris Ave., LaGrange, IL 60525 in Saranne’s memory–a very special place that was near and dear to her heart.
Dear Milano and Salach Family,
We are heart broken at the sad news of Saranne’s passing. She was a wonderful and vivacious person that lived gloriously full life with many family members and friends. We wish we could have gotten to know her better, and we know you wish you had been given more time with her. We are so very sorry. Your trip to Las Vegas means even more now and we are so glad you were able to celebrate with your parents and your children all together. That was such a gift. Please know that Charlie and I are praying for all of you. We know it is painful and difficult right now. You will find ways to cope and remember her with the deepest love and honor in the days, months and years to come. Those remembrances will help you heal. Hold on to each other tighter right now. May God bless all of you with her beautiful memory.

Dear Milano and Salach families, it is with heavy hearts that we want to express our deepest sympathy during this time for you all. “Mimi” had the ability to light up the room. Her spirit will live on thru all of you and the stars will shine brighter in the sky above us with her transition to Heaven. The seeds she spread through out her contacts of the many organizations to which she was affiliated will continue to grow with the positive impact she had on them and her memory will never be forgotten. That said, she will be missed dearly!
With love,
Sullins (Pam & Max) and Marsh Family (Greg, Stef & Kim)
