Lois S. Edberg, 89, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2021 at Oak Trace Health Center in Downers Grove, IL. She lived most of her life in LaGrange and raised her family there with her late husband Roy. Lois spent much of her career in the travel agency business at Viking Travel. She and Roy enjoyed traveling to many places around the world. In 2007, they moved into Oak Trace Senior Living Communities in Downers Grove to spend their later years. Lois volunteered on committees and as a greeter at the dining room for many years. Lois is survived by her loving children Eric (Susan) Edberg, Lynn (Mark) Metz and Paul Edberg; her beloved grandchildren Katherine and Paul Metz; her brother Lenard (Grace) Swanson and also nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy, her son David and her sister Carole Anderson. Interment is private. Arrangements entrusted to Hallowell & James Funeral Home 630-964-6500
Lois was such a great friend to my mom, Elenore, for the many years they resided at Oak Trace. The two of them enjoyed roaming the surrounding towns for bingo, luncheons, speakers and the like. Bingo is first on that list in honor of Lois, as mom went along more for the socialization than the game. Their lives (and calendars) were so full. With a relationship built on mutual understanding and respect of each other’s opinions, likes and dislikes, neither ever took it personally when the other chose not to participate. I always had the sense Lois was up for anything that meant getting out into the larger community and loved her for her kindness in including Mom. When Lois stopped driving, the adventures swindled. Felt a little like the end of an era. It came with mixed emotions for our family, knowing the two of them would be safer getting rides from others (thank you Lynn!) in exchange for the independence they had enjoyed. I was fortunate to have Lois visit my home in Rockford one weekend. We have a strong Swedish community and we had chosen that weekend so she could attend the annual Swedish festival. We also stopped by the Swedish section at a local history museum and enjoyed Swedish pancakes at Stockholm Inn. Of course no Swedish pancake could compete with the ones made by her grandson Paul! How she loved his making those for her. Such a fun weekend- but it seems once was enough as she never returned no matter how many invitations were extended. We just wanted to spoil her a little in exchange for all she did for my mom. I’ll end by sharing a recent comment from my mom. She told me there was nothing she and Lois couldn’t talk about.. I think she knows more about your mom and each of you than you’ll ever realize, although I’m certain you can understand how much your mom and those conversations will be missed.
Love in large measure from Elenore and Jude
Elenore asked me to add the following:
“Lois was an ideal best friend. She would tell others we couldn’t be more opposite. We didn’t think alike but it didn’t infringe on our friendship. There was never a nasty word between us.”
“Her family was all she cared about.”
