Marilee A. Culhane (82) of Western Springs loving mother of Jim (Molly) and Carolyn; dear grandmother of Caitlin and Ryan passed away April 1, 2021 in her home of 54 years with her family by her side.
Marilee was born in Oak Park, Illinois to Harvey and Evelyn McRae of Ashland, Wisconsin. After graduating Trinity High School, Marilee pursued her dream of becoming a nurse, graduating from Loyola University nursing school in 1960. Marilee continued her education earning a Master of Science Degree with Honors.
During her 50 years in nursing, Marilee worked as a nurse and educator at Chicago State Hospital, Hines VA Hospital, Riversedge Hospital and for 25 years as the Director of Continuing Education at Triton College.
Marilee demonstrated her empathetic heart as a private counselor. She taught the psychiatric board review for nurses at the Rizal Community Center for over 30 years, created and taught continuing education for police, fire and paramedic first responders and traveled the world as a nursing educator, most notably educating nurses in Europe and the Philippines. One of her greatest joys was when students would call “Miss Marilee” to tell her about their latest achievements or successes.
Marilee was a devoted mother, wife (Patrick), grandmother (Grandma Honey), aunt and friend. She was an active member of the Western Springs community. Marilee had a passion for traveling, loved her little dogs who were forever by her side and truly lived life to the fullest.
A private family service will be held in Ashland, Wisconsin where Marilee will be laid to rest in the family plot with her beloved parents, grandparents, and great grandparents.
We will forever carry with us her kind and loving spirit. If you knew her, or are just reading this, she wishes you Joy.
