Victor A. Swindall

Victor A. Swindall, age 90, of Indian Head Park, IL went up to the Lord on June 21, 2021. Vic is survived by his loving sons Victor, Jr. (Carol), Anthony (Patricia), John (Karla Koskinen) and grandchildren, Matthew and Kristen. Vic was the brother of the late Catherine Hougland. Vic was a kind, loving friend to many.

Vic was born August 6, 1930 in Burdine, Kentucky to Myrtle and James Delmar Swindall. Vic was raised in Burdine, KY, Charleston, SC and Yakima, WA. He left Yakima at the age of seventeen to join the US Navy. Vic said the Navy gave him the opportunities he never would have had as a civilian to achieve an advanced education and serve his country. Vic held many Naval positions retiring in 1979 as Captain and Hospital Administrator.

Vic’s life was complete when he met and married Toni. They were loving partners in life and in the Navy as they moved together between assignments. Toni cared for their three sons and their home, allowing Vic the time to advance both his education and Naval experiences. The Navy moved the Swindalls to sixteen duty stations including a four-year assignment in Naples, Italy.

For many years, Vic was an active member of St. Cletus Church as a Eucharist Minister at Mass, a Minister of Care to the homebound and a member of the Holy Name Society.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Vic’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.

A Memorial Mass will take place at 10 a.m. on  Tuesday, June 29. Family and friends will meet directly at  St. Cletus Church, 600 W. 55th St., LaGrange. Interment is private. Funeral information: (708) 352-6500

  1. I loved your Mother & Father. I am so sorry to read this but I know that he is at peace and he and your Mom are reunited. Love you boys.

  2. I remember Vic and Annette with such love! We were neighbors in Rockville MD. As a godparent of mine, I remember the song “raindrops keep falling on my head” which Vic taught to me. I was so so small. I cried as a little girl when they were headed to a duty station in Italy. At about 4 yrs old, I didn’t know what temporary meant. I was excited to see them come back.

I remember them both with much fondness and pray for them and John, Vic and Tony. We’ll reunite on the other side. Say hi to my Dad Rolando for me.

  3. Vic and Annette were our first neighbors when we came to the USA from Bolivia, SA. They became life long friends and even when separated by distance, we were always connected by love. The world is a better place because of them. I will cherish the memories and fun times . My heartfelt sympathy goes out to their devoted sons and their families. May they test is their well deserved eternal peace. Till we meet again. Love you so much..

  4. I saw Capt Swindall’s name in the FRA magazine. I know our paths crossed at some Naval Hospital at one time and wanted to express my sincere condolences to his family .

  5. The Captain was my Skipper and I his CMC at (what used to be) the Naval Health Sciences Education and Training Command (HSETC). Being an ex-white hat, he knew how to command. Rest in peace Shipmate, we have the watch.

  6. With great sadness I read the obituaries of two wonderful people Toni & Vic. We met in Hawaii many years ago at the Fort DeRussy Chapel after Mass and always enjoyed the times we spent visiting with them over the years while walking the beach or overlooking the ocean during our winter vacations.
We kept in touch via email, Christmas cards and telephone. With no return communication in the last year my concern led me to the internet.
Rest in peace dear friends – I know that you will be together and loving each other as you always did.

    Elaine Vetter & Alf Bentley
