Norman A. Wasz, age 86, of LaGrange, Illinois passed away on August 10th, 2021. 9:00am Visitation at St Francis Xavier, 124 N Spring Ave,LaGrange, Illinois with 10:00 am Mass to follow on Saturday, August 14th, 2021.
Norman was born April 27, 1935 to Joseph and Sadie Wasz in Chicago and grew up in Cicero, Illinois, the youngest of three brothers and 2 sisters. After graduating from St Mel’s High School Norm went on to study Business at Loyola University where he received his MBA. He worked at Encyclopedia Britannica for the next 33 years.
Norm valued friendships and maintained them like treasure. He wouldn’t pass up on the opportunity to have company over for spirited conversation and a few jokes. There would always be a lot of laughter in the house. Norm had wonderful friends that he met in Grade School and all throughout his life he was blessed with many more dear friends.
Norm was an avid tennis player, golfer and bridge player He supported each of his grandchildren in their sporting events and activities and could be spotted most fall Saturdays at a High School stadium taking in a game, rain or shine. He could just as easily spend a night volunteering at BEDS as he could sip a martini and dive into a 600 page book
A man that was strong, yet gentle, Norm was very good at communicating. He shared with his children and grandchildren the gift of words. He encouraged them to speak their minds and provided guidance and support in so many ways. Norm’s greatest success was in his 63 year marriage to Donna, the love of his Life. They were a couple who truly complemented each other. What a good fortune it was that Norm asked Donna to Dance at Rosary College 65 years ago.
In Lieu of Flowers, please consider a donation to St Francis Xavier Church.

Thoughts and prayers to all of you. So sorry for your loss. Such a great man, he will be truly missed.
So very sorry to hear of your loss. I’ve known Norm since grade school at Mary Queen of Heaven and was part of the group planning and attending our reunions. We both graduated from Loyola U although from different campuses. Norm was a fine man and will be missed. My sincere sympathy to the family. With love and prayers.
Uncle Norm was always a fixture at big family events and a conversationalist to boot. He always had an interesting perspective and could strike up a genuine interaction with anhway. I remember him welcoming me back from Iraq and how he was among the first to make my now-wife feel at home with her new Midwestern family. I will miss our conversations.
My deepest condolences and Sympathies to the entire Norman Wasz family! Uncle Norman was truly a great man, I always looked forward to seeing him, always with a big smile! I’ll miss you Uncle Norman!! Your all in my thoughts and prayers May God’s perpetual light shine upon him, and may all the souls of the faithfully departed Rest In Peace
Thoughts and prayers to all of you. So sorry for your loss.
My condolences to you all. Uncle Norman will be missed!
I would like to share one of my treasured memories of Uncle Norman. It was my brother Ed’s wedding. and my Michael was 3 years old. Once the dancing started I had lost sight of Michael and couldn’t find him anywhere. Well here he was with Uncle Norman . He had brought him to the banquet room next to us, their band was on a break. Uncle Norman had put Michael by the drum set and the two of them where having a ball!
I wonder if you could pass on my condolences to Donna. I realise it is almost a year since Norman died, but I would like to share my memory. My husband Brian Rice and myself knew Norm when he was working in Britannica. We worked for Britannica in the UK. He, and I believe Donna was with him, when he visited our house during a visit he made to the UK in the late 70s. He brought as a a gift a Swiss Cheese plant. That plant is still alive and I often think of him when I water it. I was doing this yesterday when I thought I would google him. Sadly the result come back that he had died last year. He was such a lovely man and very helpful to us at EB. Please let Donna know he wasn’t forgotten even in the UK after such a long time.
What an incredible man! So fortunate to have known him growing up in Western Springs in truly the best neighborhood ever. My heart goes out to Donna, Karen, Mike, Sue , Colleen and their families during this sad time. Sending prayers of peace and joy in the wonderful memories. Love and hugs to all.
