  6. Big Ger was truly a great guy. I’d look forward to seeing him at every function my schedule would allow me to make. Big Ger was not only a friend but one of a few people in my life that I would call a mentor. Big Ger took me under his wing at a tough point in my life and schooled me in skills that I would take with me the rest of my life! He will always be dear to me and Karin , remembered forever!!!!

  7. My deepest condolences to Jean, Becky and Patrick.
I worked with Gerry almost exclusively for 15+ years. We worked side by side. He was an excellent floor mechanic and made me a better installer. He used to say that we were the “A” team. I miss you my friend. Rest In Peace.

Ha, I remember he used to talk about “the wrecking crew”

  10. He was a kind and generous person this will leave a hole in our heart for a long time he will be missed my best friend.

  11. My condolences and love to all of Gerry’s family. Though I’ve only been a neighbor since May, Gerry made quite a large impact in my heart. I haven’t had any family around for a long time and having Gerry next door felt a bit like having family next door.
He was the 1st to welcome us to the block. He showed me the ropes on getting started on cleaning up and fixing this old house. He was always ready to lend a tool and definitely always smiling. He pumped water out of my backyard when I wasn’t home and we were getting a massive downpour and it was amazing to me how truly selfless and helpful he was. One day I said “I don’t know how I’m going to figure all this out” and he said “you’ll get by with a little help from a friend” I imagine he was that friend to everyone he encountered. I always looked forward to seeing his smile and wave and I will miss him dearly.

  12. So sorry for your loss. Cousin Gerry was always such fun. He always stuck up for me when I would get yelled at as a rambunctious child. Moving to California in the mid 70s I lost touch with most of my Chicago relatives. My mother, Gerry’s Auntie Jeanette (92 years old) attended a family get together recently. Mom raved nonstop about how wonderful, compassionate and caring Gerry was to her. She is so sad she didn’t have more time to spend with him. Rest In Peace cousin ❤️

  13. We love you Papa Gerry. Emma will miss running to give you the biggest hugs when she sees you across the street.

We love you all Tomazins and take comfort in knowing Gerry is still watching over all of you from above ❤️🕊

  14. My condolences to all of Gerrys family. He will be missed by many, especially the big smile when ever I saw him. Rest In Peace!

  15. Dear Brother. You left us way too soon. We had vacations planned, musicals to attend and dinners scheduled to keep in touch. Everywhere I look in my townhouse, you are there. My “Gerry-style” bathroom, my beautiful kitchen, you are everywhere. Thank God I have so many memories to hold on to. I know you are in heaven with Uncle Billy having a great time but not being able to talk to you will be so tough. We will take care of Jean, Becky, Pat and Sara. I love you and will miss you but I will see you again. 😥😥

  16. So sorry to see you go my friend. Our deepest sympathies and condolences to Jean and the rest of the family, one of the oldest families in our old neighborhood.

  18. To Bonnie and Joseph Del Preto and Melissa and Josh Jernigan,

Family, our connection to history. The teachers of love and life. Our first friends. Our roots in our traditions that we pass along and our guide in making new ones with our new family as they come along. Brothers, Sisters, Uncles, nieces and nephews, parents, these are the guide post and rest stops on our earthly journey. When one is no longer here to share and guide there is a space but there is also all they have shared and taught that remains for us to remember.

Sorry for your lose, glad for you all to have held him dear.

He would talk to any body and every body. there will be a great party in heaven when Gerry meets up with his uncle Billy. Rest in Peace dear Gerry. We will miss you greatly. Frank B. Zeglin and Family

  22. Our condolences to Jean and the rest of the family. We are so saddened to learn of the death of such a kind hearted man. Gerry was our neighbor for many years, and was always willing to help us at a moments notice. Always the teacher, taking our young son under his wing and letting him tag along in the yard while Gerry was working on projects. He was selfless, fun, quick witted, and just an all around great person. My favorite memory of Gerry was how much he hated the tree in our yard. This provided years of fun banter between us until he finally took it down. We will miss you Gerry. We are all better to have known you.

  25. I’m sorry I couldn’t be there at the funeral, but I’m glad I was able to see it live-stream. . It was the most beautiful and heartfelt service I’ve ever seen. Such a wonderful tribute to such an amazing guy. Gerry, you will truly be missed. I may not have seen you all the time, but when I did, it was always a great time. I will always remember you teasing me about all kinds of things and us talking about Tony Ocean. You were always a good time. I never saw you in a bad mood. Rest In Peace, Gerry. I know you’re free of all pain now and celebrating with all your loved ones. Party on in your new and wonderful life. Love you 😇😘

  27. Dear Jean and Tomazin family, I just learned of this sad news today. Gerry did a beautiful bathroom in our home in Jan-Feb this year and we planned to have him back this fall. He was the best — beautiful work and just a nice, honest man. We enjoyed having him around and his banter with his helpers. He talked about you all so lovingly and my heart breaks for you. Rest In Peace, Gerry.
