Meryl Joy Nielsen Dahlgren, 89, of Oak Brook, IL, passed peacefully on January 17, 2022.

Meryl was born on March 2, 1932 to Roy and Gladys Nielsen in Chicago, IL. She met her beloved husband, the late Kenneth A. E. Dahlgren, through church and graduated from Foreman High School. They attended Augustana College together in Rock Island, IL.

Meryl & Ken built their life on Community Dr. in La Grange Park, IL. Meryl was a loving and devoted mother to her three children, Gregory (Carolyn), Kenneth (Gina), and Diana (Robert) Kritzer.

Meryl was an amazing and proud Nany to her seven grandchildren, Mabry (Miguel), Alec, Kyle, Samantha, Lindsay, Ellis and Ryan, as well as her great-granddaughter, Charlotte.

Meryl was a career Executive Assistant. She was most proud of her years at Hickman, Williams & Company and the lifelong friends she made there. Meryl retired in 1999.

Meryl embraced life and family. She had a great sense of style and a passion for shopping, travel and Riesling wine. She spent her summers hosting loved ones at the lake in Fontana, WI. She loved vacationing in Florida during the Midwest winters. Meryl’s greatest joy was having her children and grandchildren together, enjoying each other and making memories.

A visitation will be held at Hallowell & James in Countryside on Saturday, January 22^nd at 10 am, followed directly by a service at 11:30 am. Interment to follow at Bronswood Cemetery, Oak Brook. Meryl’s family would especially like to thank Gina & Lou, Meryl’s caregivers who brought her much comfort. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Assistance League Chicagoland West or, in honor of her husband, the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
