Ofelia (nee Cabrera) Barbosa, a devout Catholic, age 85, long-time resident of Chicago passed away surrounded by family on May 31, 2022.  Born in Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico, she immigrated to Chicago with her family at the age of 19.  After landing in Chicago, her family’s first stop was St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, to give thanks for their safe arrival. In Chicago, she met and later married her beloved Juan Barbosa. They enjoyed a wonderful 58 years of marriage. Ofelia was the loving mother of the late J. Luz, Rosa, Juana, Theresa (Sham) and Bernabe Barbosa; devoted Godmother of Humberto and Juan Campos, the late Luis Barbosa, Margarita Barbosa, Andy and Heather Barbosa, and Henry and Teresita Barbosa; cherished aunt, sister-in-law, and friend to many. Ofelia was preceded in death by her parents, Delfino and Tomasa (nee Sandoval) Cabrera and brother, Merced.

Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 813 W. Roosevelt Rd., Chicago, IL 60608 for visitation from 10am until of the Funeral Mass at 11am on Friday, June 3rd. Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church as a Memorial for Ofelia.
