Robert “Bob” T. Newman, age 76, of Western Springs passed away Thursday September 22, 2022. Born in Chicago on March 7, 1946 to the late Harry and Marie (Casago) Newman. Beloved husband of Mary Beth (Caplice); loving father of Scott, Michael (Carmen), Meghan Ransone (Dean Hollingshead), Katie (Adam) Terese, Beth (Kevin) Spencer, and Kevin; proud grandpa “Ducky” of Danny, Tommy, Molly, Dylan, Liam, Caleb, Matt (Montse), Josh, Mariana, Emma, Ashleigh, Henry, Charlie, and Sophie; dear brother of Kathy (the late Randy) Gunderson; uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Growing up on the Northwest side of Chicago, Bob was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. He attended St. Edward’s Catholic School and St. Patrick’s High School. After graduating from Loyola University, he started working for IBM. But within months, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he proudly served his country as a Platoon Sergeant in Vietnam.  When his tour ended, he returned to IBM where he stayed for 25 years. During the second half of his career, he continued working for IT companies, and then transitioned to a financial planner position where he ended his career. When his kids attended St. John of the Cross Church, he enjoyed coaching their basketball teams.  Traveling with the family to Spider Lake, Marco Island, Grand Tetons/Yellowstone and St. Louis were some favorite trips.  He loved listening to live music, drinking Manhattans, dancing the Freddy, and watching his beloved Chicago Cubs. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
