Sandra S. Gerberich (nee Otto), 80, long-time resident of Western Springs, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2022, surrounded by her daughters. Sandy was born May 21,1942 in South Bend, Indiana to Harold and Grace Otto. Sandy was a cherished wife for 57 years to Bill, who recently preceded her in death. She was a devoted mom of Debbie (Sandy) Gerberich, Julie (Kevin) Beitz, and Vicki Gerberich; proud and loving grandma of Adam, Lindsey, Robert and Jessica. She was preceded in death by her dear sister Gail Olson. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Sandy was amazing at raising her children, taking care of numerous pets over the years, keeping an immaculate house, cooking and baking delicious meals and desserts. Sandy loved to travel! Her favorite places included Hawaii, Florida (Ft. Myers Beach) and Arizona (White Sox Spring Training).

Sandy had a very close knit group of friends that she gained through her and Bill’s years square dancing and her time volunteering at LaGrange Memorial Hospital. She continued those friendships to the end through their various travels and dinners out. We are comforted knowing that she and Bill are back together. Sandy will be greatly missed.

Family is grateful for the care she received from the nurses and CNAs at Oak Trace Health Center where she resided the past 14 months, and to Angels Grace Hospice, who was pivotal in making sure she was comfortable in her last weeks.

Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, October 2, 1:30pm at The First Congregational Church of Western Springs, 1106 Chestnut Street, with a reception to follow. In keeping with her life-long love of dogs, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to It’s a Pittie Rescue. Rescueapittie.org
