Jack Goss

John “Jack” P. Goss, age 86, of Western Springs; beloved husband of Sheila (née Fogarty); loving father of Tracy Cooper (Frank), Julie Fitzpatrick (Michael), John, Brian (Amy), Kate Ranalli (Dan), Greg (Michelle), and Brendan (Emily); proud grandfather of Matthew, Claire, Caitlin, Meghan, Elizabeth, Luke, Patrick, Andrew, Evan, Grant, Brett, Colin, Owen, Guy Henry, Shannon, Griffin, Cooper, Teagan, Kellan, and Garrett and great-grandfather of Trevor, Gavin, Hudson, Grayson, Bennett, Ashley, Molly, Lindsey, Nora, Flynn, Mac, and Maeve. Jack was an uncle and friend of many.

Jack was a member of the Chicago Carpenters Union for fifty years. He worked  at Crane Construction Company for over forty years as a superintendent and general field superintendent helping build the Chicago skyline. He loved a construction site as it allowed him to use his creativity to solve the most difficult of issues and gave him the universe to develop the deepest of relationships with those that worked by his side. Jack was a principal pillar in creating the excellent Crane Construction reputation with inspectors, architects and owners. Jack’s work-ethic and value of relationships are to be carried on by his children and grandchildren.

Visitation 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 18 at St. John of the Cross, 5005 Wolf Road, Western Springs, IL. Interment will take place privately at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, we would greatly appreciate memorial donations in Jack’s name to the Violet Foundation for pediatric brain cancer. Donations can be made at https://www.violet-foundation.org/

  1. Jack was one of the greatest mentors I could ever have. From meeting him at lake point tower at the age of 12 to the many high rises we worked in downtown. He taught me a huge amount about Constrcution and how to get it down the right way. We will miss you Jack!

  2. Working with Jack at Crane Construction Company was a pleasure. He always had a joke or a story to share. His smile lit up the office and made everyone’s day brighter. Thank you Jack.

  3. Jack was a very special man to me. He played a significant role in my life by being my first hockey coach. He would pick up all the neighborhood hockey players at 4 am and take us to the old Willow ice chalet. Thank you for your positive influence in my life “Mr. Goss”. Thanks for getting me involved in hockey!!!
