Kate Rastetter Nelson
Kate Rastetter Nelson of Western Springs & Lombard, passed away on April 28, 2023. Born in Fort Wayne Indiana on August 28, 1942, she was the daughter of the late William C. Rastetter Jr. and Marion McKay Rastetter Walley.
Kate graduated from South Side High School, Wittenberg University and received her Masters degree from Northwestern University. She enjoyed teaching high school English, she was an avid reader and a great lover of dogs.
Kate was predeceased by her beloved husband Theodore (Ted) Nelson. Kate and Ted spent most of their summers at Sylvan Lake, Rome City Indiana and enjoyed traveling together throughout their 35 years of marriage. Ted’s children, Kathy, Jim and Tom quickly became Kate’s family.
Kate is survived by her beloved stepchildren Kathy Mader, Jim (Joellen) Nelson, Tom (Mindy) Nelson and brothers Bill (Cary) Rastetter and John (Vera) Rastetter and extended family of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Interment will be private.

I walk a great deal. It was always a treat to talk with Katie. Had some wonderful conversations over the years. I am glad she is at peace
Kate was a wonderful neighbor. We often walked our dogs together and shared stories. She was a great Northwestern fan and always had a positive outlook on life. She will be missed by all who knew her!
We miss you outside with the dogs, Kate. Loved being neighbors for so many years.
Sorry I didn’t know of Katie’s passing until right now. I am so sorry for her family. I had 1 last visit with Katie at the lake a few years ago. We had so much fun growing up on Sylvan Lake.
