Vincent Walter Winkler

Vincent Walter Winkler, age 71, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday May 26th after a courageous fight with cancer.

Vince is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Joan (Nowakowski), and his daughters Diana Winkler and Shannon (Oscar) Alfaro.  He was a proud grandfather to Hailey, Aubrey, Olivia, and Ava.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and MaryAnn Winkler. Vince was the oldest of 6 siblings, and best friend to his brother Warren Winkler. He was a caring Uncle to 13 nieces and nephews.

Vince loved spending time with his family, especially his 4 granddaughters. He was always there for their school events and dance recitals, and deeply enjoyed reading with them. The best days in Vince’s life were those spent with his family in Florida.

Vince was a successful business owner, establishing Winkler Tree & Landscaping in 1975 and serving customers across the Chicagoland area for 46 years. He was very proud of the fact that Winkler’s Tree & Landscaping was the 1st Nationally Accredited tree care company in the State of Illinois.

He was an avid Chicago White Sox and Chicago Blackhawks fan who attended many games.  He was a proud graduate of St. Joe’s High School, class of 1970, and remained an active supporter of the community throughout his life.  He was a graduate of Western Illinois University, class of 1974.

A visitation will take place on Wednesday May 31st from 4pm to 8pm at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W 55th St, Countryside. A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church, 124 N Spring Ave, LaGrange, at 10am on Thursday June 1st.   1. Vince Winkler was a talented man in starting his successful business. He was a good husband fir Joan and a hands on father and grandfather.
    I am sorry that in his retirement he became ill.
    There is the expression “The good die young.”
    Now, his beautiful family will miss him.

  3. So sorry for your loss. Vince was a wonderful man and he will certainly be missed by his family and friends. I will miss him too – he treated me so wonderfully. I felt more of a friend than his housekeeper. May God comfort all of you.

  5. To the Winkler Family,

    I had the great pleasure of working with Vince at Northern Tree Service. Vince was a great guy and always kind to me no matter how badly I messed up. Cocktails after work at the Village Pub were always fun as were beers at the Trailer. Although I had not seen him in a long time he will be missed.
