On October 31st, Clifford Harry Gustafson, 82, of Plainfield, formerly of Hinsdale, went to join his Lord and family in heaven.
Many would describe Cliff as compassionate, loving, loyal, and faithful. He was the beloved husband of Judy. Loving father of Susan, Dale (Glenda), and David Gustafson. Devoted grandfather of Kandice (Donald) Gallagher and Cody (Cori) Gustafson. Cherished great-grandfather of Landon and Linnea Gallagher. Dear brother of Shirley (Robert) Woelfle and Cathy (Thomas) Cummings. Cliff is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Cliff was a sales engineer and proud owner of Cadre Technical Representatives, a small business located in Hillside. Cliff’s real foundation came from living a life to serve and be with others. He insisted on opening his home to bible study, holiday get-togethers and family celebrations. Cliff was a supporter to many and his optimistic perspective on life was contagious. He enjoyed golfing and fishing trips to Canada with his sons, grandson, and friends. Cliff also loved eating ice cream, especially with his daughter. He mostly treasured his time traveling the world with Judy, his wife of 61 years. These adventures with Judy were definitely a highlight of his life!
Cliff was very active at church, serving as an elder, committee member, Lenten spaghetti dinner server, and member of the sanctuary choir as well as a Stephen Minister. He also taught 8th grade Sunday school for over 30 years. Many would remember his humorous, sometimes sarcastic sense of humor, that would lighten the room. He loved the Lord, and this emanated in all that he did. Through his involvement in church, he developed many wonderful friendships.
The family will be hosting a Memorial Visitation at 9am until the Memorial Service which begins at 11am on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church & Inurnment Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, 11500 German Church Road, Burr Ridge, Illinois 60527. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church (address above) appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Hallowell & James Funeral Home, Downers Grove at 630-964-6500.
We are all blessed to have known Cliff as a role model and have countless positive memories. Psalm 32:10- “Steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord.” Cliff was surrounded by love on this earth, and now in heaven. God bless Cliff and family.
My heart is with this remarkably wonderful family. As a dear forever friend, fifty plus years of faith, love, laughs and cherished memories continue to bless my life. My love to you all.

Remembering standing up at their wedding. A gorgeous event, made all the more beautiful by Cliff’s comment “This will forever be the happiest day of my life!” Such a great memory to have of a delightful man to know. He dearly loved Judy and he was devoted to his Savior.
