Viola Wennerstrum Butler

Viola (Berggren) Wennerstrum Butler, age 94, long-time resident of Western Springs, recently residing at Plymouth Place, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on November 11, 2023.  A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs at 1:30 pm on Friday, November 17.  To participate via live steam, visit presbyws.org.

Vi was preceded in death by her husband, Scott Wennerstrum, and was loving mother to their children Scott Wennerstrum (Lisa), Steve Wennerstrum (Kathy), Sheryl Allen (Berry Allen), and a cherished grandmother of Erik (Megan), Jack (Ida), Charlie, Matt, Tom, Dan, Tyler, Lindsey and Lacey.  Sister to Ann and Barbara.  She married the second love of her life, Joe Butler, in 1999, sharing ten wonderful years together.  She was later blessed to have John Easter as her dear companion for many years.  Her greatest love was always her family and the many friends who will miss her dearly.

Vi attended Hirsch High School in Chicago, followed by Knox College in Galesburg, IL and the University of Colorado, Boulder where she completed her business degree.  Vi worked in the 28 Shop at Marshall Fields for several years, and later utilized her natural artistic talents to develop a successful interior decorating business:  Vi Wennerstrum Interiors.  Her love for beauty was not only evident in the many homes she designed, but also in her gardens where she loved to work.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs, or to the charitable organization of your choice, would be greatly appreciated.

  4. Just watched the Memorial Service for Vi. Was pleased to still have access for such a meaningful service with many family members sharing their stories. I’m in Strasbourg, France, visiting my daughter for a number of months otherwise would have attended the service. Caring thoughts and prayers are with you Scott, Steve, Sheryl and families.
