Don was a real mensch. He was my go-to guy for buying houses, starting my small business, and whenever life threw me a need for an attorney I could trust, I’d talk to Don. Tennis memories galore!
So many great family memories with Don. He will be missed. Such a kind and talented man who loved his family and was a hard worker and active all of his life. Many hugs and much love to his family and friends who will never forget him.
A lovely man. A fellow SFX’r and Burlington train rider (who shared his popcorn !). Rest in peace Don. Meg Shannon Baker La Grange
Don was my cousin, and lived just a few blocks away, so he was always a part of my life growing up. He was enough older that we weren’t playmates, but that also made him the perfect role model. I always remember him as smart, wise, and calm. Army officer, professional, public servant, great husband – he always gave me something to aspire to in the next phase of my own life. My first tennis racquet was one of his hand-me-downs. I still remember sitting in his kitchen the night of his wedding shower. He and Mary got a Chemex coffee maker and we decided to try it out. The coffee was so good that we made pot after pot. I got my first caffeine buzz and I couldn’t sleep for days. But I learned to like good coffee, and still use my own Chemex.
I got older, but he never seemed to. Again, a wonderful role model for graceful aging. His was a life well lived and the world is a better place for it. My deepest sympathies to all his family and friends. Thank you, Don, for leading my way.
Don took the same Burlingto Northern train as I and my train gal pals. Over the years, we watched his avid bridge playing during the very short commute time with ‘da guys’. Occasionally they’d need one us us gals to sub in. He was a great conversationalist with us gals – all while knowing which card to play. Quite a fun time.
Don was a good friend to my late dad, Chuck Freeman. They were in the same law school graduating class at DePaul. I was sad to hear of Don’s passing.. from what I had experienced and heard from my dad.. was that Don’s the kind of guy who could make friends with just about anybody.
