Rock Madden

Rock Thomas Madden, age 65, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 23, 2023. Beloved son of Claire Ann Madden and the late Robert Joseph Madden. Husband of Maris (Pope), brother of Bob (Patti), Bill (Cindy), Chris (Chrisy), John (Anne), and Ann (Chris Thoms) Madden. Cherished Uncle to many nieces, nephews; also numerous cousins and friends. Rock attended St Francis High School in Wheaton, IL. True to his pugnacious nature he starred in numerous sports: football, boxing, wrestling and track. He was a graduate of both Outward Bound and National Outdoor Leadership School. He graduated from St Xavier University of Cincinnati, OH. Upon returning to the Chicagoland area, he started a number of career paths but settled on creating his own enterprise called Power Clean. As anyone who called his home phone number you would be greeted by a booming voice “POWER CLEAN!“. Rock was a generous soul who loved nature, boating, dogs and all kinds of animals to include the elusive Sasquatch. Visitation Saturday, December 16 from 10am until time of Mass, 11am at St. Petronille Catholic Church, Glen Ellyn. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Les Turner ALS Foundation. 1. I am so saddened and stunned to hear the terrible news of the hard struggle that ended Rocks life too early.
Rock was a one of a kind, loving , sweet guy.
I was lucky to attend the Loyola Rome Center for a year, Rock was a classmate and an icon during our memorable adventure.
His tagline, “Get it!!!”, made us all laugh, and sometimes drove us crazy that year, and for years after when we all hung out together.
Rock was always an enthusiastic, kindhearted, bull in a China shop, and we all loved him.
I’m sorry that as life went on, we lost touch.
Still, I always pictured Rock off being a loving family member and friend, and power washing houses across the Midwest.
(He always wanted to power wash my old family home. I told him it was just the caulk and old paint holding it together, it might not survive his enthusiastic cleaning.)
God bless you Rock! You are remembered with love.

    1. I can wholeheartedly endorse all that Vicki has so thoughfully written.

I still laugh when I think about Rock in our Italian language class.

Rock made everything more fun. God Bless. JOE V

  3. So sorry for your loss Madden clan. I am glad that Rock is at peace now. He was always entertaining to be around! Take care

  4. What a sad state I was in when I was unprepared to hear of Rock’s passing. We fell out of touch over the last several years, which of course saddens me. I attended Xavier University with Rock and was shocked when, upon arriving in Italy to attend Loyola Rome, as I hear someone yelling “GET IT!” across the lawn. I knew who it was immediately by hearing that voice, which had no equal. He was a trip, always. What a caring person. Good hearted and too honest for this world. Rest in Peace, Rock.
