Grace Young Sun Shon passed away peacefully on February 16, 2024 at the age of 77. Grace is survived by her professor son (Phil), professor daughter-in-law (Leah), daughter (Nancy), and Will, Ellie, Maggie, Edward, Koca, Kona, and Mindy, three sisters and a brother and their families, cousins, and close friends all who will remember her for her jolly nature and love of life.
Grace was born in Korea in 1946, was a talented traditional Korean folk dancer, horticulturist and had a fulfilling fifteen-year career as a teacher of students with disabilities winning several best teacher awards during that time. She emigrated to the United States in 1982 and spent the second half of her life in various commercial endeavors while devoting her life to raising Phil and Nancy. Grace adored her four grandchildren and spent her remaining years helping her daughter and late son-in-law raise the grandkids.
Grace loved to cook, laugh, sing, play piano and was an avid gardener. Grace was beloved by all who knew her at Mayslake Village, especially by the Garden Club. Grace was extraordinarily proud of her family and will be most cherished for her dedication to her family and living what she affectionately referred to as her “diamond life.”
