Edward J. Urbanek

Edward J. Urbanek, Age 74, of LaGrange, IL passed away peacefully on June 1, 2024.  Beloved husband of Mary Beth Urbanek; Loving father of Bryan, Brandon (Rebecca), and Trent (Julie); Cherished grandfather of Samuel (5), Colton (2) and June (2); Brother of Lelia Colbrese (William).

Ed was a dedicated civil engineer for 30 years for the state of Illinois.  He enjoyed his time keeping children safe on their way to school in his role as a crossing guard for the village of La Grange in his retirement.  In his free time, he enjoyed home improvement projects, cooking and grilling, walks, nature, architecture, traveling, museums, boating, craft beer and wine, watches, listening to music, going to the movies and staying up to date with the latest current events and technology.

The memorial service will be Friday, June 21 at 11am at St. Francis Xavier Church, 124 N. Spring Avenue, La Grange, IL.  The service will be followed by a celebration of life at Irish Times, 8869 Burlington Avenue, Brookfield, IL.

  1. Ed was apart of my life also since I was 16. I remember the day he rode in on his orange motorcycle to surprise Mary Beth in our Brookfield backyard.

  2. Special memories of my dear brother… growing up together and building a fun treehouse with a pulley system , playing with a train in the attic, and croquet and badminton in the back yard, snow forts and so much more. I will cherish all our times together and love you always. Your sister Leila

  6. I so remember Ed as a wonderful neighbor who loved to Barbecue, take care of his home and garden, kind to everyone especially to his beautiful wife Mary and their three wonderful boys. Ed’s kindness and painful last few years will be greatly rewarded in heaven
