Paul G. Podolak

Paul G. Podolak, age 99, US Navy Veteran, of Chicago, passed away on August 25, 2024. Beloved husband of Genevieve Podolak; loving father of John Paul (Michelle) and Marguerite (James) Chrusciel; cherished grandfather of Paul (Elaine) and Michael (Jennifer) Podolak, Annette (Steve) Howell, and Julia Chrusciel; adored great-grandfather of Trent, Korbin, Gray, and John; dear brother-in-law of Rita Shimonis, the late Virginia Jagodzinski, and the late Edmund Jardin; uncle and friend to many.

Paul was born and raised on the South side of Chicago.  He left after his Senior Year in high school to serve in World War II.  He was an aviator, received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.  After his discharge from World War II, he joined the Naval Reserve and was activated during the Korean War.

After World War II, he went to work at R. R. Donnelly, a printing company.  It is there where he met the love of his life, Genevieve.  They were married and had a son, John, and a daughter, Marguerite.  They raised their children on the South side of Chicago.

Paul always made his children and grandchildren laugh.

At work, he had a nickname of “Ironman” due to his outstanding work ethic.

Before September 11th, Paul would often walk to Midway Airport and participate in their mass in their chapel. He befriended many chaplains and airport staff on his visits.

Later in life, he and Genevieve, enjoyed riding bicycles along the downtown Chicago lakeshore , ballroom and polka dancing, spending time with family and friends.

He was a kind, gentle and very easy going.  He was loved by all.

Visitation 10am until time of Funeral Mass at 11am Saturday, August 31st at St. John of the Cross Church, 5005 Wolf Rd., Western Springs. Burial to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Tunnel to Towers, VFW, or the American Legion.
