Marilyn Pearson, age 90, of Woodridge, IL peacefully passed away surrounded by her children and daughter-in-law on Saturday August 31st. She is survived by her son Allen (Rosemary) Pearson, daughter Elizabeth Pearson and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by the love of her life Jack Pearson, her parents Louis and Marie, her sister Lillian and brother-in-law Richard.

Marilyn was born in Oak Park, IL and grew up in Elmwood Park. She graduated from Proviso Township High School. She took some college classes and eventually went to work at U.S. Gypsum where she met her husband of 57 years, Jack. They settled in Woodridge, IL in January of 1965 and never left. Marilyn lived in Woodridge for 59 years.  When her children were old enough, she returned to the work force, first working at Carol Sheets Research and then the Girl Scouts of DuPage County Council. She worked for the Girl Scouts for 24 years before retiring.

Marilyn was a kind and thoughtful woman. For many years, she was active in the Woodridge community. A former mayor of Woodridge and long-time friend described Marilyn and Jack as always giving back to the community. One of her nephews said he will always remember her as a kind woman. She also had a wicked sense of humor. Her family and friends have numerous tales of our mom’s funny jokes.

Marilyn led an interesting and full life. At age 10, she helped her father build their vacation home in Michigan. She was always present in her children’s lives, attending their sporting events, plays, dance events and of course graduations. She would also volunteer at their schools whenever possible. She loved entertaining and was an excellent cook. Marilyn was an active member of the League of Women Voters for many years. As well as keeping lifelong friendships with the members of her Young Adults Church group.

Marilyn kept active in retirement. She loved spending time at the Morton Arboretum. She attended concerts at the New Philharmonic at the College of DuPage. She went to lectures, plays, concerts and events at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Field Museum. The family was a member of both museums.  She enjoyed traveling and visited as many National Parks and National Monuments as she could. She loved all animals but was particularly fond of dogs, lions, tigers, and bears. Over the years numerous dogs and one cat were part of her household. A longtime fan of the Chicago Cubs, she told her children she would like to see the team win just once in her lifetime. And in 2016, she got to watch as our beloved Cubs won the World Series.

Marilyn was deeply loved by her family and friends, and we will all miss her greatly.
