Violet Gerling (nee Krisiunas), age 96, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024.

She grew up in the Marquette Park neighborhood of Chicago, graduating from Maria High School, and later graduating from St. Therese Nursing School in Waukegan in 1949.

She worked as a nurse for Western Electric in Cicero, and at the Cook County TB Sanitarium in Hinsdale.  She continued her career as an obstetric nurse at Christ Hospital and LaGrange Community Hospital.  She finished her career as a Cook County public health visiting nurse.

A longtime resident of LaGrange with her family, she then relocated to Buffalo Grove.

She enjoyed travelling with her family, and was very proud to have made a trip to Lithuania and meet with her relatives after years of correspondence only.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen R.  “Al” Gerling and her parents, Anton Krisiunas and Helen  Krisiunas (nee Stimberis).  She is survived by her son, Alan R. “Rod” Gerling; daughter-in-law, Susan Gerling (nee Glines); granddaughter, Maddie Gerling; granddaughter, Kim (John) Blickle Gerling; and grandson, Tim Gerling.
