Irene N. Johnson

Irene N. Johnson (nee Nicol), age 99, of Western Springs.  Renie was born at home in Detroit, Michigan.  When she was five, her family moved to Virginia because her father was hired to help on the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg. After high school, Renie moved to Chicago to attend Emmaus Bible School, where she met her husband, Jim.  They attended Roberts Memorial Gospel Hall in Chicago.  Renie and Jim were born five days apart and were both only children.  After their marriage in 1949, the couple lived in Chicago with Jim’s father.  They moved to Oak Lawn in 1953 and finally to Western Springs in 1966, where they raised three children. They faithfully attended Palos Hills Christian Assembly.  Renie taught Sunday School, lead Bible Studies and was involved in many projects to support missionaries.  If the doors of the church were open Renie and Jim were usually there. Renie was an excellent seamstress. She taught herself to sew and often made her own patterns.

  1. I loved her, Mom Gould loved her. What a great friend and prayer partner she was. The first TV I watched was JFK s funeral. We came to your house and sat on the bed, pulling the TV out of the closet to watch. Lifetime memory.
