Nikolaus “Nik” Krull

Nikolaus “Nik” C. Krull, age 25, of Western Springs, passed away January 7, 2025 after a brief battle with cancer.  Beloved son of Matthew and Karen Krull.  Loving and pesky brother of Karl, Katarina and Christian (Leah).  Perfect grandson of Karl and the late Shirley Kreft and the late Larry and Mary Krull.  Cherished nephew of Fred (Joan) Krull and Eric (Lisa) Kreft.  Dear cousin of Brendan (Madey), Elizabeth and Kathleen Krull, Kelsey and Karsten Kreft.  His spirit will be carried on through his devotion to his close friends and all who may not be blood but are family.  Visitation 3-7 p.m. Friday January 24th at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside.  Prelude music will begin 10:30 a.m. Saturday January 25th until time of funeral service 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 139 E. 1st St., Hinsdale.  Interment private.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to WLTL Radio, Attn: Chris Thomas, 100 S.   1. Nik was one of my students in the PLP program at DU. I remember the first quarter of his first year I caught him watching sports on his computer during class. He looked up at me with the “cat that ate the canary “ expression and shrugged his shoulders as he closed his computer. He ended up being a wonderful student who I looked forward to joking around with for years to come. He is missed. -Effley Brooks

  2. We were devastated and shocked to hear the news of Nik’s passing. Nik was a great kid growing up. I always remember him being friendly, happy and always engaging.

    Are thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. May his memory be a blessing.

  3. Oh my gosh Karen. My heart is broken for you. I’m sitting here crying and can’t believe it. Stay strong, dear friend and know that your son is with the angels who are taking care of him. I love you very much. Call me when you can.

  6. Our son, Drew Callahan, went to elementary, jr and high school with Nik. Nik was always a nice guy. He helped Drew create our backyard wiffle ball park. Remember picking up Nik, Drew and a few boys after last day of school at Laidlaw, stopping at old 7-11 for slurpees, boys laughing all the way home. Peace.

  8. I am so sorry. Everyone that worked with him at Breckenridge loved being around him. His kindness and positivity were infectious. We started on the Breck Snowmaking Team at the same time. He loved life and everything he did. He made everyone’s day a bit brighter.

  9. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of Nik, and the pride that must be yours to have raised such a fine young man. Nik will be missed.
