Abigail “Abby” Hansen

Miss Abigail Elizabeth Hansen of Willow Springs, Illinois, lovingly known to all as Abby, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 15, 2025, at the tender age of 24. Beloved daughter of Louis and Candy (Hoyt) Hansen: loving brother of Matthew; cherished niece of Robin Marsh, James and Yolanda Hansen, Debra and Jack Marozas, Scott Hoyt, Mark Hoyt and the late Cindy Spinney.  Grandparents John and Roberta Hansen, and the late Myron and Marilyn Hoyt; a multitude of fond cousins and friend to so many; Godparents Robert Zalabak and Debra Marozas.

Abby’s sweet spirit and wit kept friends and family smiling after every encounter. Her special challenges in life didn’t stop her from being curious and pursuing adventure to try new things. High school lead Abby to Letter in Cheerleading after being invited for the four years at Lyons Township High School. Abby a medalist in the Special Olympics in two sports, Basketball and Equestrian where her competitive streak shone brightly. Abby loved listening to music, playing with her baby dolls and loving on her puppy’s Desi and Sam.

Abby was a registered organ donor in the state of Illinois and as such, in accordance with her wishes, donation has taken place with The Gift of Hope. Her honor walk at LaGrange Memorial Hospital was an amazing sight to behold.  The outpouring of Love was beaming throughout the hospital, as so many were deeply moved to honor Abby’s gits.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago or Gift of Hope Foundation in Honor of Abigail are greatly appreciated.

Visitation 3 to 9pm on Friday, February 21st, at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 301 75th St.,  Downers Grove. Chapel prayers, 9:45am, from the funeral home to St. John of the Cross Church, 5005 Wolf Rd., Western Springs for an 11am Funeral Mass, Saturday, February 22nd. Interment will take place privately.

  2. Sweet Abby. I last saw you in Oct of 2024. You were a very special young lady. You accomplished much in your short 24 years and I know that you made your family very happy and proud of you. You will be greatly missed by everyone. Candy and Louie and Matthew, I am so very sorry for your loss but I know you will always love and remember her and you will keep her memories forever.   6. Abby had the sweetest smile and laugh. I enjoyed her in Bowling Club with LT. I always expected you to come in at Buck’s Stop with your parents and have a lovely dinner and conversations with lots of laughter. Rest in peace Abby 💕

  7. Like Abby, I am a horse lover too. I am thankful that I was able to watch Abby at some of her riding lessons and horse shows. She was an amazing rider that connected with the horses both emotionally and physically. I always enjoyed her sweet spirit and personality. She was special.

  9. Finding the words to express my sorrow for you loss is near impossible, my heart breaks for all of you. Louie, Candy and Matt my deepest of sympathy and prayers to all of you. I only got to meet Abby a couple times by David’s house and her smile was so big and laugh was so infectious. God has gotten himself quite the Angel.
