Eileen Madden

Eileen Helen Madden, of Chicago, passed on December 7, 2024.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eileen, a woman whose curiosity, kindness, and sense of adventure left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Eileen, born to Divinie and Helen Madden, was 98 years old at the time of her passing. She was preceded in death by her siblings Evelyn, Earl and Daniel Madden. Eileen lived a life full of exploration and service. She had an insatiable wanderlust that took her across the globe, visiting every continent except Antarctica. Her travels, whether near or far, fueled her vibrant spirit, but she was equally content in the driver’s seat, often transporting friends to appointments, adventures, and meals well into her 90s. No journey was too short, no task too small; Eileen was always ready to lend a helping hand. At home, Eileen was a devoted lover of puzzles, whether crosswords, Sudoku, or jigsaw puzzles, the more challenging the better. She was a Jeopardy expert and a voracious reader, always seeking to learn more and share her knowledge with those around her. Eileen was deeply committed to giving back. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, made quilts for children in need through Children’s Protective Services, and was an active participant in her local police civilian ride-along program in her late 70s and early 80s. She also gave her time generously to Our Lady of Peace Church, where her spirit of service continued to shine.
Eileen is survived by her sister-in-law, Marilou Madden (Daniel), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom will remember her love, wisdom, and the many ways she touched their lives. A retired employee of Chas. A. Stevens, Eileen’s professional life was marked by her dedication, but it is her personal legacy that will endure; her love of family, her compassion for others, and her ever-present curiosity about the world around her.
Mass will take place at 10:00am at Our Lady of Peace Church, 701 Plainfield Rd in Darien. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
