Elizabeth “Dolly” Schiavitti

Elizabeth Lillian “Dolly” Schiavitti, age 93, of Western Springs, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, after a brief illness, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in the middle bedroom of her childhood home on the southwest side of Chicago, Dolly was the sixth of seven children. A graduate of McCormac College of Commerce, Dolly worked as a secretary in several roles throughout her life, but her favorite position was at Oak Lawn Community High School, where she found great joy in supporting students and staff.

Dolly was witty, humble, and deeply devoted to her family. She was an incredible cook, an avid reader, and a compassionate listener whose warmth made everyone feel at home. Grounded in quiet but steady faith, she lived with kindness, purpose and an occasional zinger if you took yourself too seriously.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Elysian (Eliseo) “Li” Schiavitti and her cherished children: Nancy Golden (Bill), Jayne Greybar (Joe), Carol Jiganti (Paul), and Jim Schiavitti (Kelly Affetto). She was a proud grandmother to Elli (Alex) Baden, Andrew (Ashley) Greybar, Madelyn Greybar (Juan Sebastian Gomez Velez), Angela (Brennan Keller), Elizabeth (Sam Winters) and Susan Golden, Regina and Julie Jiganti, Jayne (Scott) Caruso, Peter, Sam, Luke and Francesca Schiavitti. Dolly’s legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Maxi, Robin, and Stella Baden; Luna and Roland Greybar; Frank Winters; and Billie Keller.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 22, from 3–8 p.m. at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W 55th St, Countryside. A memorial Mass will follow on Wednesday, April 23, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Parish, 5005 Wolf Rd, Western Springs. Please meet at church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Gerald’s Parish at 9310 S. 55th Court, Oak Lawn, IL 60453 or Doctors Without Borders in honor of Elizabeth’s generous spirit.
