Sr. Leyla P. Cerda, C.S.J.
Sister Leyla P. Cerda (Cerda-Sanchez), C. S. J., age 60. Beloved member of the Congregation of St. Joseph, celebrating 24 years of Religious Life. Loving daughter of the late Enrique M. Cerda and Leila Maria Sanchez. Dear sister of Enrique F. Cerda, Carlos M. Cerda, Regina Cerda Guidry and Carmen Soledad Guidry. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Due to Covid restrictions, no public visitation or service will be held. A Memorial Mass will be held in the future. Sr. Leyla received her Bachelor’s degree in accounting and her Master’s degree in Pastoral Studies at Loyola Institute of Ministry in New Orleans. Sr. Leyla’s ministries included service in Catholic Charities in New Orleans and Catholic Charities in Baton Rouge. She served as Loyola University Ministry Chaplain in New Orleans, at Taller De Jose in Chicago, St. Barbara Catholic Parish in Brookfield, St. Joseph Press in LaGrange Park, and TEACH in LaGrange Park. My heart is sadden by the loss of such an amazing human being. I know she is at the side of our Father and is riding all the beautiful horses in heaven. I will truly miss her with all of heart and hope and pray I will see her again someday. May she rest in peace.
I am so sad to hear Sr. Leyla has passed. She was such a kind-hearted person. Whenever I would speak with her I was always impressed by her enthusiasm and her faith. She has done so many amazing things in her life. I will miss her, but cherish the memories I have of her.

We knew of Sr. Leyla from her service to the St. Barbara Parish. She always was in the state of peace and joy, certainly Christ-like, a true Christian; and always welcoming to our parishioners.
An amazing person. My heart is in pain. We were good friends since our High School years and kept in touch through our lives.
