Barbara Markert, of LaGrange, passed away peacefully September 22, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great and great- great grandmother and friend and will be missed dearly.

She grew up in Pennsylvania Dutch country, graduated from Syracuse University and spent the first 15 years of married life in upstate New York. She and her husband John built a summer home on Lake Ontario, raised 6 children and enjoyed the company of many dogs. After 2 transfers LaGrange became home for 50 years.

She was a long-time member of All Saints Episcopal Church, loved working with pastels, created many beautiful drawings and loved to play bridge.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John and a son, Andrew. She was a loving mother to Christine (Brian) Novotny, John Jr., William (Nancy), Cynthia (David) Houghton, Jeffrey (Karen) and the late Andrew, grandmother of Tiffany, Matthew, Shannon, Jonathan, Holly and Emily, great and great- great grandmother to seven.

A private service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church followed by interment in the church Memorial Garden.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to All Saints Episcopal Church in Western Springs or the American Heart Association.
