Marion E. Anderson (101) passed away peacefully on March 24, 2022 at Oak Trace Downers Grove IL.

Marion was born on December 4, 1920 in Chicago IL to Rueben and Elsie (nee Marks) Anderson. She grew up one block away from Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. This might explain why she was a longtime Cubs fan! After graduating from high school, she held several jobs before starting at Standard Oil Company (Amoco Chemical) as a pension accountant.

Marion and her mother moved to Matteson IL in the early 1950’s. As a single woman at that time, she received pushback from the bank while applying for a mortgage. She persisted, got the mortgage, and paid it off early.

She and her mother enjoyed travel: the Southwest US was one favorite. After Elsie passed, Marion continued to travel to many Elder-hostel locations well into her 70’s.

She never drove a car, instead relying on walking, public transportation, and her good neighbors to get around. She liked gardening and mowed her lawn into her mid 80s until a hip injury made it difficult.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents Reuben and Elsie; her sister Adelle; and brother-in-law Robert. She is survived by her nephews Corey (Cheri) and David (Janet) Kirkpatrick; great niece Jennifer; great nephews Matthew (Elizabeth) and Andrew; great-great nephew Liam; great-great niece Emma; and neighbors Paulette and Dan.

At 101 years old she saw many changes during her life. Her sense of humor, generosity, and wisdom were a great blessing to her family.
