Donald J. Gianone

Donald J. Gianone

June 1, 1944 – March 24, 2022

Donald J. Gianone of Hinsdale, was born on the southside of Chicago, son of Joseph and Florence Gianone along with his siblings James and Robert.  He attended Little Flower Parish, University of Illinois and received a Master’s Degree from DePaul University.  He also worked on his Doctorate at Michigan State University.   He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia A. Duffy and their three children, Erin, Brian, and Jennifer as well as his eight grandchildren.

Don was known for his larger-than-life personality and loved to make people laugh.  He was a great friend and was a father-like figure to many.  He was well known for his generosity and kindness. To know Don, is to love Don. He loved to rap to anyone that would listen and to hang with his friends at the Cigar Club. He loved to travel and explore the world, visiting 99 countries.  He loved reading about history, old cars, telling jokes and had a story for every occasion.

Don’s true passion was in Real Estate Development, he loved the “art” of putting together a deal.  Some of his proudest moments were working with all three children and passing down his craft.  His many projects left an indelible mark on the skyline of Chicago.

Don lived his life his way. He was truly a unique individual and to say he will be greatly missed is an understatement.

A memorial visitation will be held from 1 to 4pm on Saturday, April 9th at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mercy Home For Boys & Girls, 1140 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60607. Interment private.

  6. This post is to Pat, her sisters, her children and to the wonderful families in her life! I am truly very sorry for the loss of you husband, best friend, loving parent! Just reading all of the comments Don certainly had a great life and friends that shared their grief on his passing!
Sixty-two years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting all of the Duffy Clan and all were very wonderful to me and I can’t thank them enough! Likewise, on my wife’s side I also met some wonderful people so my life I’ve been “double blessed”!
Just looking through all of the pictures it brought me back to times that certainly were not as stressful as what we have today! I also shared Don’s feelings on the political spectrum and almost always gave him a “thumps-up”!
It was truly wonderful for me to see them again two years ago when DJ died. I think he was 5 when I first met him and Sissy may have been 6! Another first was being able to meet more of the Duffy families in Facebook posting but never in person! Now I actually met most! Bless all and make sorrows small – just remember your loss is heaven’s gain!

  7. Our deepest condolences to the entire family.

    You are in our thoughts.
