John J. Hojnar, aged 83, passed peacefully at home on Monday, May 2, 2022. John’s beloved wife of 59 years, Carol, was by his side. John has two children, Jack and Laura. John’s family resided in Western Spring, IL, for more than 45 years, surrounded by family and friends. John’s positivity, warmth, and hearty laugh touched all his loved ones and friends.
John was born on July 4, 1938 in Chicago, son of the late John and Genevieve Hojnar. After serving in the Army, John graduated from Loyola University and went on to obtain his Masters in Business from the University of Chicago. Upon finishing his corporate career, John founded and ran his accounting firm for several decades. He also went on to teach as a professor at both Loyola University and the University of Chicago.
John is survived by his wife, Carol; his son, Jack Hojnar; and his daughter, Laura (William) Tarnow. John has seven amazing, smart and talented grandchildren: Alex, Ki, and Sam Hojnar; and Will, Ben, Luke and Carolyn Tarnow. They all were the light of his life. Brother-in-law to Keith, Robert and Donald Alberico, cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews, former father-in-law to Anna Hojnar, and friend to so many, John will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by Roger and Florence Alberico; Roger and Carol Alberico; Jan and Ed Veome; Eileen Alberico; Nicole Denefburg; and Bobby and Michael Alberico.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association and to the Alzheimer’s Association.
