Edward F. Paliatka, age 88, US Army veteran, of Burr Ridge. Loving father of Julie Paliatka (Mark Morrissey), Jeanne Paliatka (Olaf Nelson), Jennifer Paliatka, and Jason Paliatka. Proud grandfather of Ryan, Sam, Sarah, Jamie, and Marie Morrissey, Greta and Iris Nelson, and Lavanya Paliatka. Devoted brother of Eleanor (late John) Turchan. Beloved uncle of John Turchan, Maria Turchan, Lisa Turchan, Jim Turchan, and Laura (Stephen) Robinson (nee Turchan). Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille E. Paliatka (nee Capek) and parents, Cyril and Anna Paliatka.
After graduating from St. Procopius Academy and Bradley University, Edward proudly served in the US Army, 3rd Armored Division, from 1956-1958, serving the majority of his tour in Germany. Upon returning to Chicago, he started Palmer Insurance Agency in 1960. He then pursued his passion for building and founded Austin Highland Development Company, a land management company, in 1968. A charter member of the Southwest Suburban Home Builders Association, he served as its president twice. He was a founding member of the Disabled Patriot Fund and a member of the American Legion. A lifelong Chicago Bears fan, he loved traveling, WWII aircraft, skiing with the Nomads Ski Club and spending time with his family.
Visitation 3 to 9pm Monday, July 18th at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Family and friends are invited to meet Tuesday, July 19th at St. John of the Cross Church, 5005 Wolf Road, Western Springs for 11am Mass. Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Disabled Patriot Fund at www.disabledpatriotfund.org.
