Alexander “Alex” Marthaler, age 29, passed away suddenly. Loving son of Erin and Tom Marthaler of LaGrange; loving brother of Bridget (Pat Caragher), Kathleen (Dave Macfadden) and Sergei; companion of Betty Lowe; fond nephew, uncle and cousin. Alex was born in Russia and was adopted in 1997 at the age of 4. He grew up in LaGrange and lived in Marysville, CA. Friends and family are invited to gather on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at St. Francis Xavier Church, 124 N Spring Ave, La Grange, IL 60525 from 10am to 11am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11am. For those unable to attend in person the Livestream will begin at 11am via https://www.facebook.com/SFXParish.LG/live/. Burial services will be private. He was an amazing man, he found me when I was at rock bottom in my life, and showed me that I wasn’t alone and changed my life. He showed me what love is and gave me hope and something to live for. Alex was mine and my children’s best friends my kids loved him dearly they called him Mr. Mom. He got my three girls and all my foster kids up and ready their first day of school last two years un a row he was my family he was like my brother Amanda was like his mom which is one of our friends too that took us all in at our worst and I not my kids will be the same without Alex I am so heartbroken and so are mychildren he was one of the best men I knew and we will forever miss him. Alex we love you and miss you horribly I am so hurt that you were alone and no one was there with you it hurts my heart. Why is all I want to know is why. We loved you Alex.

Growing up, Alex was the cool kid we’d hang out with on the other side of our block. I have fond memories of his backyard swingset, and his brother, and him. I don’t know what I’d say to him if I had another chance. If he was still around, I’d prefer to listen instead.
