Glenda Hoff

Glenda Ann Hoff was born to Carrie Buerkel Mizer and Walter F Ladrach on April 5, 1927, in Ragersville, Ohio.  Her family has remained active in Zion Church (now Zion United Church of Christ) in Ragersville for over 150 years.  With the choice of teaching music or serving as a nurse, Glenda chose to attend Aultman College where she graduated as a registered nurse.

Glenda served in the U.S. Army Nurses Corp and worked at several V.A. hospitals in the mid-1940’s. While serving at the Maywood VA Hospital, she met an injured Marine of the 3rd Division whose mother sent chocolates to help him heal. William Hoff took a fancy to her, and they were married on May 27, 1950.

Together, Glenda and Bill raised three children: Ellen, Laurie, and William.

Glenda worked in nursing at LaGrange Memorial Hospital, Elkay Manufacturing, and Robert Bosch. She was active in the choirs of Village Church of La Grange Park, and later, First Congregational Church of La Grange. In her retirement, Glenda volunteered with Community Nurses and Wondrous Things Gift Shop at First Congregational Church of La Grange.

Glenda and Bill were accomplished travelers, together visiting 49 states, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong and more. They traveled by car, sailboat, and even a freighter. They enjoyed spending time in their cottage in South Haven Michigan.

  1. My condolences go out tonight to Glenda‘s children Ellen, Lori, and Bill. Also to her grandchildren and their families. Glenda was one of my favorite aunts and on occasion would babysit my sister and me.
After her marriage to Bill they lived in Illinois and would occasionally visit Ohio and I would be so excited to see her and her family and get to know my cousins. I have such fond memories of the family dinners at grandma house dining those visits. You were lucky to have her in your lives for so long.
My prayers go out to you during this time of loss, and may you treasure you memories of your life with her.
