Anna May Junius
Anna May (née Stack) Junius, age 97, of Western Springs and formerly of Oak Park, but in her heart an eternal Chicagoan; beloved wife of the late Daniel Junius; loving mother of Marty (Denny) Junius, Maura Junius, Dan (Betsy) Junius, Paul (Ann) Junius, Sue Junius, & Jody (Tom) Suttie; in her lifetime, proud grandmother of 14, and great-grandmother of 16; dear sister, aunt, and loyal friend of many.
Her passion for education motivated her career of over fifty years as an educator at Trinity High School, Mother Guerin, and CPS’ Stewart School. Through DePaul and Concordia, she worked to shape future educators as a student teacher evaluator. An avid golfer, she hung up her clubs at the age of 90. Her fiercely competitive bridge playing ended only a few months ago.
Visitation 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Family and friends will meet at St. Giles Catholic Church, 1045 Columbian Ave., Oak Park on Thursday, December 22 for 10 a.m. Mass. One of my best Junius memories is from the Christmas Eve dinners at the grandparents’. It was the only time each year when all the cousins were together; and of course Santa came (if we sang and kept our eyes closed)! I remember your family being the first to leave some years as some had to sing at Midnight Mass. In my childhood years, I remember Aunt Anna May as a very “nice aunt”.
In later years, even though very infrequent, whenever I spoke with Aunt Anna May she was always showed an interest in what I was doing as we “caught up”. I enjoyed discussions with her about her work in education. I could tell she cared deeply about that work.
She lived a very full life and made a difference for many along the way.

Chris, did you attend Our Lady Help of Christians? Our family did, and we became neighbors coincidentally with Sue Junius. Small world?

Lady Anna May was a sweet, sweet soul. She married My Paul’s 2nd brother, Daniel Junius….theirs was a large family of seven (7)!
I married into the Junius Family many, many, many years later. And from time to time, Lady Anna would phone in to our home in Dallas, Texas to chat with My Paul.
Anna May & Paul both enjoyed a good chat…their childhood experiences of the Great Depression. Such conversations always made My Paul’s hazel-colored eyes teary…the survivor duos!
So, “here’s to you” Anna May! Adíos mi lady!! As you embark on your “Last Dance”, go fetch My Paul & have tea on us!!!

Mrs. Junius was my geometry teacher at Trinity and she made me feel like a geometry superstar, because I had struggled with algebra in my freshman year and thought success in math was beyond me. I believe she was the first teacher I felt comfortable approaching with questions, and I know she was as happy as I was with my excellent grades (I was more astonished than anything!) — because she told me so. I never forgot her name, which is why “Junius” jumped out at me in the obituaries. What a wonderful life she had outside of that tiny classroom at Trinity! Her memory is special to me.
Sue Junius and family, I am saddened for all of you on the loss of your dear Mother. I just saw a post from Mother Guerin HS on Facebook sharing this notice. I didn’t realize, or didn’t recall, that your Mom taught at Guerin. My sympathy to you all. Birthday wishes to Sue.
