Jon Hiller, 65, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a battle with cancer on January 24th. Born in Pontiac, Michigan, he graduated from Lyons Township in ’76, where he met his beloved wife of 42 years, Diane. At 16, he began playing drums in Blues By Five and quickly became a mainstay of the Chicago blues scene. He joined the Bob Riedy Blues band in 1975, backing Sam Lay, Eddy Clearwater, Otis Rush, Chuck Berry and many other Chicago blues artists. As a session player, he appears on many Delmark recordings, and in 2007, he founded Ten O Nine Records.
Jon loved animals, grilling the perfect ribeye, and scaring his kids with Halloween masks. He taught his children Ashley, Pat (Mary), and Sarah to dream big and showed them how to live a life with tremendous heart and integrity. He is survived by many beloved family members and friends and will be immensely missed.
