Michael Thomas O’Grady, age 74, passed away with his family at his side on March 9, 2023. He was born in Chicago on April 2, 1948 to the late Peter and Margaret (nee Bresemann) O’Grady. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He attended Lane Tech College Prep High School graduating in 1965. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from University of Wisconsin-Platteville, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from DePaul University, and a CPA.
Mike worked for Teamsters Local 705 in benefit administration and served on the Board of Trustees. He later worked as administrator for the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters Health, Welfare, and Pension Funds and went on to serve the United Brotherhood of Carpenters until retirement in 2017. After retirement, Mike enjoyed working at White Lake Golf Club in Wisconsin as a groundskeeper.
Mike married Linda Templeton in 1970 and together they raised their three children in LaGrange. Throughout his life he enjoyed travelling and participating in sports. He wrestled in college, competed in karate for many years, water skied, played racquetball and table tennis, golfed, fished and loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Mike relished time spent with family and friends and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his children Amy (Christopher) Suffecool, Michael (Christine) O’Grady and Julie O’Grady (Timothy Palmer); grandchildren Orion, Natalie, Sean and Henry; friend and former spouse Linda O’Grady; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 2pm until time of Funeral Service at 5:30pm on Sunday, March 19th at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Family and friends will meet on Monday, March 20th at the cemetery office of Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1400 S. Wolf Rd., Hillside at 11am, where they will be led across the street to Mt. Carmel Cemetery for a Graveside Service.
