Lawrence “Larry” Shell
Lawrence “Larry” Shell, 82, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2024, after many months of declining health.
Larry was born in Chicago on October 23, 1941, to Stanley and Olga Shell. He is survived by his children, Larry, Laura, Leighton (Sabine), Louis (Angela), and Sara (Tom); grandchildren, Jose Ruben (Shannely), Jackson, Olivya, Audrey, Molleigh, and Sydney; as well as his brother, Stanley (Dawn). He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Lee; his brother, John (Bonnie); and his sister, Margaret (Michael).
After attaining a Bachelor’s Degree from Northern Illinois University, where he met Lee, he went on to have a long career in the early years of the computer industry. In addition, he served as a volunteer fireman and paramedic with the Pleasantview Fire Department. In his later years, he found tremendous joy working as a school bus driver.
He enjoyed cooking for his family, attending the opera, and caring for his beloved animals. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his wonderful sense of humor, and his warm, welcoming attitude; there was always space at his table if someone needed a place to go.
Visitation will be held 4pm to 9pm, Friday, January 26, at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St. in Countryside. Mass will take place at 10am, Saturday, January 27, at St. Cletus Parish, 600 W. 55th St. in La Grange.

May God be with you and your family on the loss of your dad. Thinking of all the wonderful times you all spent together, really warms the heart and makes you smile. Keep his memories close to your heart and when you think about him, thank God for all the times you all spent together. He is now at peace and is no longer suffering. Cherish his legacy.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Your dad was always one of my favorite cousins. He was full of life and had a great sense of humor along with a sensitive, loving heart. He will be so missed. Rest in peace, dear Larry.
Thank you, Marilyn. I know how much my dad loved all his cousins. It meant a lot to us kids that you came to the funeral.
